Content Cloning in Courses Builder: Clone Lessons, Quizzes & Assignments

Finding a repeatable formula for course content takes time. Once we have a standard, being able to duplicate and edit content for repurposing becomes essential. Pinnacle's Courses Builder now includes instant cloning for lessons, quizzes, assignments, and full modules. This speeds up creation and keeps course structure consistent across products.
How cloning works
Cloning creates a copy of a lesson, quiz, assignment, or entire module. The original stays unchanged. The clone includes associated content and assets, so we can edit the copy without affecting the source. This reduces repetitive setup and helps us build course items faster.
Where to find the clone action
Open the Memberships section and go to the Courses Products tab. Choose the product you want to edit and locate the module that contains the item to clone.
Step-by-step: Clone a lesson, quiz, or assignment
- Hover over the lesson, quiz, or assignment inside the product list.
- Click the two-square icon that appears next to the item.
- If you are inside a module, open the options menu by clicking the three-dot icon.
- Select Clone from the menu.
- Confirm by clicking Clone again. The duplicated item appears in the module and is ready to edit.
Cloning entire modules
We can clone whole modules along with all their lessons, quizzes, assignments, and assets. This is useful when we want to reuse a proven sequence of lessons across multiple products or when building variations of a course.
What gets copied
- Lesson content and structure
- Quizzes and quiz settings
- Assignments and instructions
- Associated assets such as files and media
Because assets are included, cloning removes much of the repetitive configuration work. That makes it easier to keep consistent course design and pacing.
Best practices for cloning
- Use a clear naming convention for clones so you can track versions and revisions.
- Edit the clone right away to adapt content for a new audience or module.
- Remove or replace any module-specific links or dates in the cloned content.
- Keep originals as templates. Treat clones as working copies to customize.
Benefits at a glance
- Faster course creation by reusing structure and assets.
- Consistent learning experience across modules and products.
- Less repetitive setup so teams focus on improving content instead of rebuilding it.
FAQ
Can we clone an entire module with all its lessons and assets?
Yes. Cloning a module copies its lessons, quizzes, assignments, and associated assets so you can reuse a complete structure in another product.
Does cloning affect the original content?
No. The original remains unchanged. Edits to the clone do not alter the source, so the original can stay as a template.
Are media files and attachments included when cloning?
Yes. Associated content and assets are copied with the clone, which reduces the need to re-upload files.
How do we find the clone option if we are inside a module?
Open the module options by clicking the three-dot icon, then choose Clone. Confirm to create the copy inside the same module or product.
Next steps
Use cloning to create multiple versions of a lesson quickly. Start by cloning a module as a template, then customize each clone for different audiences or course variations. This approach helps our team deliver consistent, high-quality learning without repeat configuration work.
